The lent group meeting on Wednesday mornings will be working through a course entitled “Life Calling” by Robert Warren and Kate Bruce. Life calling is an exploration of what vocation is about: the call to know God and to allow that relationship to direct, shape and transform all of life. The focus is not just on what we do in the church, or I our working life, but on the deeper issues of how we see and handle the whole of life.
Wednesday 4th of March: Called by God
This session looks at the shape of God’s call as seen in Scripture and explores how that works our in our lives. Vocation begins with God.
Wednesday 11th of March: Called from within
Although the call comes from God, it is the drawing out of what he has planted in us, not the imposing of something foreign to our nature. It is the expression of his image in which we have been made
Wednesday 18th of March: Called out
The good news is that God’s call sets us free from the pressures we put upon ourselves, and others place upon us. Yet there is a cost, for God calls us out of our narrow pursuits, our comfort zones and our addictions. His call sets us fee to share in his purpose of love.
Wednesday 25th of March: Called up
God calls us to join in with his loving care of the world, part of which involves enlisting us in the work of bringing it to wholeness. For some that means a lifelong “vocation” but for most of us it is about a life-giving way of living an “ordinary” life.
Wednesday 1st of April: Called on
To live life in response to God’s call is to embark on an adventure, a journey through life in which we make a contribution to the world around us. This session explores how we can grow in our sense of calling beyond the end of the course.
The theme of each session is developed by means of engagement with some teaching input, a passage from scripture, reflecting on our life, praying together and interactive ideas designed to engage our imagination. Each session ends with ideas for living out the truths that have been explored.
